About the journal
Electrician Adelaide is a South Australian editorial publication. We write about the work that happens between the street pole and the kettle: switchboards, solar, storms, licences and the houses that make this city particular.
What this site is
The domain name sounds like a call-out van. The publication is not one. We do not send trucks, we do not quote jobs, and we do not keep a secret roster of preferred contractors. We publish long essays that a careful homeowner can use before ringing anyone, and that a licensed electrician can hand to a client without wincing.
The old site sat at electricianadelaide.com.au as a local electrical journal for Adelaide readers. The Wayback Machine did not return a usable snapshot when this edition was rebuilt, so the desk inferred the niche from the name and from the questions Adelaide houses keep asking: heat, heritage fabric, rooftop solar, bushfire country in the Hills, and a regulator that still expects a certificate when the work is finished.
How we work
Pieces are assigned to topic hubs — safety, switchboards and wiring, solar and charging, Adelaide houses, licensing and standards, and storms and outages. Each essay is written in Australian English, checked against current South Australian practice, and linked to the neighbouring pieces so a reader can keep walking.
Contributors include an editor, a licensed electrician who writes under his own name, and correspondents who cover energy policy and housing. Advice is general information, not a substitute for a site visit. If a piece mentions a product, scheme or training course that paid for the mention, the link is marked rel="sponsored" and the prose says so.
Who we write for
People in Unley villas with ceramic fuses. Landlords in Salisbury updating smoke alarms. Owner-builders in the Hills who have just discovered that “I’ll just shift this powerpoint” is not a weekend project. Readers who want the difference between a safety switch and a circuit breaker explained without a sales footer.
If that is your brief, read the editorial standards, browse the image credits, or write to the desk. Pitches belong on the write for us page.
